rough comp 03

So we're still in the "design phase". All of these elements are stolen cut and paste graphics, or rough sketches. Just trying to move things along and give an idea of how all elements could look in color.

Did a first pass of the antler crest. Its photo collaged to be a big fantastical mess of horn. Do you like it? I was thinking it might be cool to have black horns, but they could also be gold. Thoughts?

The crown of st louis needs to be more saturated now that im looking at it here, i was thinking bronze originally... but maybe it should be gold. Thoughts?

This is a different style of mantling, aka the floury stuff on the sides. Mantling is the visual depiction of a type of cloak knights wore into battle for general protection, as well as to keep the metal of their armor from burning them. Its all twisty to evoke the idea that its been slashed in battle. Theres lots of ways to draw it. The mantling is usually 2 colors, but can be 3. I figured black and gold, but we could sneak some red in there too.

I've divided the shield to match Rita's suggestion and i think it looks much better. Theres a few things i need to do to the symbols to make it more balanced. I also wanna try a little something. But this is tight for now.

Rough placement for scroll and motto. As per our conversations I believe this bit can/should be personalized. But i wanna do a lil more research to confirm. Give me thoughts and feedback!

  2. ILL TRY AGAIN :(
OK SO FIRST, I LIKE MY SUGGESTION ABOUT THOSE ANGLES, EVERYTHING LOOKS MUCH BETTER INSIDE THE CREST (DID I GET THAT RIGHT?)
    2 LIKE THE BLACK ANTLERS
3 SO I THINK THE TORN SHIELD COULD BE DONE BUT I FEEL LIKE WE NEED SOME SORT OF GREEN WRAPPED WITH IT.. IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE THIS FLOWERY GIRLY OR FUNERALY (:)) THING BUT SOME SWEET VINE OR SOMETHING.. I WROTE OUT THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT A KNIGHT IN BATTLE AND HIS/HER SHIELD WAS TORN OFF BUT THE KNIGHT KEPT FIGHTING NEVER LOOKING BACK OR GOING BACK FOR PROTECTION.. SO THE ARMOUR JUST SAT THERE REMAINING AS A LAND MARK (OR SOMETHING) AND WAITED FOR THE KNIGHT TO COME BACK BUT HE/SHE NEVER DID, SO THE EARTH BEGAN TO ENTANGLE THE LEFT ARMOUR AND NO ONE EVER REMOVED IT TELLING THE STORY OF THE KNIGHT WHO KEPT FIGHTING DESPITE PROTECTION AND NEVER LOOKED BACK.. SWEET? HAHA DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? I LIKE THIS STORY AHHA AND IT CAN BE INTERPRETED OR SYMBOLISMS FOR US ALWAYS MOVING AND FIGHTING FORWARD FOR WHAT WE WANT AND BELIEVE AND NEVER LOOKING BACK.. (OR MOVING BACK IN WITH A PARENT WHEN WE ARE 37 YEARS OLD? HEE HEE JKJK) BUT YOU GET? MAYBE THAT WAS TOO MUCH FOR WHY I THINK SOME GREEN WOULD BE SWEET..ALSO I THINK THE ARMOUR SHOULD BE AGED, WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK.. BITS OF SHINE? AND IF THE SHIELDING IS BLACK SHOULD THE HELMET? MAYBE THIS WOULD BE EASY FOR YOU CASEY TO SHOW SIDE BY SIDE? ILL COPY AND SEE WHAT I CAN DO BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD DRAW THE LEAFIES
OR THE HELMET LOOK SIMILAR TO THE CROWN?
OK SO THATS MY OPINION SO FAR :) HOPEFULLY THIS IS HELPING US MOVE FORWARD :)

  4. Black horns is my preference. They look really good here. I kinda would also prefer gold on the crown of St. Louis, unless he actually had a bronze crown. I think gold would go with colors better (unless too matchy?). I think a little red in the mantling might work. I still want to draw some sketches. And I know I should get on it.

I would definitely prefer to go with whatever the official rules of heraldry state about the green in the mantling. I want everything accredited and approved. But the story sounds great dii dii. :)

Also, I agree with casey about the black for the helmet. It looks badass. I feel there is something unexplainably fitting about it. Nice addition, Dider.
