Hey guys! Trying to chip away at this thing. Started doing some owl drawing. Mocked up a version into the shield. What do you guys think? Is it too evil?
Also, thought it might be a good idea to put the snail in his talons instead of mouth so there's a silhouetted read. But I think the snail would have to be gold. Might not be a bad thing. Thoughts?
I played a bit with the wing position so its closer to the more conventional heraldic bird pose. Do you like it?
And here's a rough ink drawing of the stylized horned owl so you can see it a bit clearer.

Ok well this will be short cuz im on my phone :) that owl is too scary! i like the one at the bottom the nicer one, def like the snail in the tallons .. i like the mantling a bit better, i like a simple tri color no lines one gold one red one black cut that way.. ps dad said he would get a tattoo can u believe it
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the owls face in the rough 4. It looks more wise than angry. A little softer owl maybe. I really liked the snail in the mouth, but I'd be willing to compromise. Why didn't you guys like that snail in mouth? Is this what you were thinking of getting as a tattoo? Without the mantling/helmet/antlers? I definitely want that in my tatt.
ReplyDeleteI really like the positioning of the owl, also. It seems like were all in debate about the face/style of the owl, correct? The bottom owl looks more feminine and the one above looks more masculine. I want something a little more in between. Wise.
ReplyDeletethis COULD be a potential tattoo if someone wanted something smaller/minimal. But that wasnt why i posted it this way. It was just to focus on these specific design elements.
ReplyDeleteI'll be doing a redesign of the owl something closer to the bottom.
the reason for TRYING the snail in the talons is because it makes an easier "silhouette read", that was the idea at least. Plus having another element near the face crowds/complicates the face. it was just a thought.
